In various countries throughout the world, Christmas is celebrated in different ways.
In the northern hemisphere, the Christmas season falls in wintertime when nightfall is early in the evening. Christmas decorations light up the houses and make the neighbourhood look like a fairyland. However, on Christmas eve, it may be very cold, wet or snowing and Santa and his reindeer need to navigate snow covered rooftops.
In the Southern Hemisphere such as in Australia, Christmas can be celebrated in scorching summer heat where it is 100 degrees in the shade. But this doesn’t deter families from having the traditional roast turkey and ham with roast vegies plus plum pudding at Christmas dinner. Some families however opt for seafood instead, such as oysters, lobster, and prawns.
And when Santa Claus heads for the Australian Outback, he often swaps his reindeer for kangaroos!

A CHRISTMAS CARD GIFT TAG
Gift-giving at Christmas
Eating roast turkey at Christmas dinner dates back to the 1500’s in England.
Another Christmas tradition that dates back even further is that of gift-giving.
Gift-giving had its roots in winter rituals conducted in Northern Europe before Christianity arrived. As Christianity became more widespread, gift-giving was carried on as a tradition based on the biblical story of the Magi who came bearing gifts for the baby Jesus.
In later centuries, in the lead-up to Christmas, young men of the lower classes would call at the homes of the gentry, singing carols and demanding handouts.
More recently in the USA and across the western world, this tradition has morphed into the custom we know today, of giving gifts to children.
The tradition of giving and sending Christmas cards with special Christmas greetings inside has long been another custom and all these customs can make it a very busy time of the year.
Christmas card gift tags are easy Christmas crafts for kids to make at home. These gift tags can be attached to that special homemade Christmas gift, to be placed carefully under the Christmas tree.
